Living on campus at Appalachian State was the most fun I've ever had. Boone and the campus are breathtakingly beautiful year round, the bus system is fantastic, and the local restaurants and bars are great. My professors were amazing, every one of them. They are kind and really care about your success, each getting to know you personally and many have continued supporting me after graduating. The education program is top-notch and provides you with amazing internship opportunities. My only complaint would be that during my freshman year, my dorm was lackluster. The rooms were small and poorly insulated, and the bathroom was at times unclean. The showers did not have full walls, doors or even hooks on the curtains. The east-side campus has been completely torn down and rebuilt since my time there, so the new dorms are probably nicer! All in all, I loved App. If you like the cold, this place can easily become a second home for you.

My first year was wonderful. I lived on-campus, all of my classes were at most a 10-minute walk, and I had easy access to the dining hall, although my gut health suffered from eating there -- there was, and still is, very little diversity in what you can get -- little to no raw veggies, fruit is half rotten, and is unsanitary at stations unmanned by staff.
However, this year, specifically this spring semester of 2024, many issues have arisen within the university and administration. The school removed the free expression tunnels, which had been established for over 40 years, there is active construction and dangerous learning environments in Wey Hall, over-admission by the Chancellor, increasing prices for the same, if not lower-quality services such as parking, housing, and tuition, and general housing -- on-campus is only guaranteed for first-years, which means you may end up in a refurbished hotel, bought due to the overwhelming amount of folks accepted. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
